How to Choose E-Liquid: PG/VG Ratios and Flavours Explained
What PG and VG actually do, how the ratio changes throat hit and vapour, and how to narrow thousands of flavours down to one you will fin...
Freebase e-liquid for tanks and sub-ohm devices, in fruit, menthol, dessert and tobacco flavours across a range of PG/VG ratios and nicotine strengths.
Every bottle is a balance of two base liquids, and the ratio on the label is the single most important number on it. Propylene glycol (PG) is thin, almost tasteless, carries flavour well and gives a firmer throat sensation. Vegetable glycerine (VG) is thicker and slightly sweet, produces most of the visible vapour, and wicks slowly because of its viscosity.
The practical rule is small device, more PG; large device, more VG. Put a 70/30 VG liquid in a small pod and it will not reach the coil fast enough, giving dry hits within a few pulls. Put a 50/50 in a sub-ohm tank and it will thin out and seep past the seals. A 50/50 is the safest starting point because it wicks reliably in almost anything.
Freebase e-liquid is normally stocked at 0mg to 6mg. High-power devices move a large volume of vapour per puff, so a strength that feels mild in a pod becomes harsh in a sub-ohm tank. If you are looking for 20mg or higher, you want salt nicotine and a low-power device instead — the two are not interchangeable.
Thousands of flavours exist, but nearly all sit in a handful of groups. Working out which one you like narrows the field quickly.
Our range covers Ferocious, Ice Fantasi, ELFBAR ELFLIQ, Nasty, Mr. Sauce, Debon Air, Shijin Vapor, BLVK, Dr. Vapes Panther Series, Koncept XIX, Tokyo, Tesiyi and more, in 30ml and 60ml bottles.
Worth knowing before committing to a dessert or candy flavour: sucralose caramelises on a hot coil and leaves a residue that dulls flavour. A heavily sweetened liquid can cut coil life from three weeks to under one. That is not a reason to avoid them — just keep spare coils in the drawer.
Heat, light and air all degrade e-liquid. Keep bottles closed, upright, cool and dark. A glovebox in summer will darken a bottle within days. Stored properly, most liquid is good for a year or two — gradual darkening is normal oxidation, but a sharp or off smell means discard it.
Still deciding? Our e-liquid guide covers ratios and strengths in more detail, and our salt versus freebase comparison explains which suits which device. You must be 18 or over to purchase.
